One of the promises about the coming Messiah is God’s commitment to give his people a true Shepherd. Jesus was not just a King, Priest, and Prophet, but also a Shepherd. The one who gathers his people, cares for them, and feeds them. This ministry of the Messiah continues to play an important role since the foundation of the church. Jesus fulfills this important function for his people through specially chosen by him individuals. Pastors and elders are first and foremost co-shepherds with Jesus Christ. Scripture calls Jesus the Chief Shepherd. The one who leads and guides the pastors of the church and who will one day ask account of them.
