Believers are recipients of divine promises and look to the future expectantly. But their hope in the future is what empowers them in the present.
The book of Chronicles is a call to faithfulness of the post-exilic Jews. It shows how God rewarded those who trusted in Him and punished those who did not believe. Now, after the exile, when Israel is at her lowest point is the time to hang onto the promises of God. They are true.
This Old Testament call to rely on the promises of God is just as relevant for the New Testament believer. The world around us, our personal sin, the Christian’s mission, and the wait for the things to come, are just a few reasons to hang onto the promises of God.
